Katherine Degenhardt, Developer/President of SEED Publishers, Inc., author, TV host, lecturer, founder of Degenhardt Educationals, and Christian counselor, holds a Master of Science Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee School of Social Work and a Bachelor of Science Degree, Cum Laude from Belmont University, Nashville, TN, with a major in psychology and a minor in religion.
Currently, Katherine serves as a Christian counselor in the Nashville, TN area. Her objective is to provide practical Christ-centered individual, group, and family counseling and teaching services for individuals, groups, and families. Specific areas of expertise include individual and family restoration, grief and loss, depression, boundary issues, dependency, co-dependency and addiction, changing a relationship or behavior, building a God focused self-concept, spiritual concerns, and heart healing.
The encouragement and hope that Katherine brings to her ministry spring from her deep faith in God and her own personal experience. She helps individuals and families who feel trapped in their situations find a way through them, pointing them toward Jesus Christ as healer and deliverer. Years ago when Katherine herself found Christ, she also found the ministry to which He had called her.
Long years of study and preparation in fulfilling her calling and being obedient to Christ followed. For ten years at the Alcohol and Drug Council of Middle Tennessee, she established a counseling program in a large inner city high school and was responsible for training school staff, students, and parents in prevention and intervention activities. She also established student support groups, provided short-term individual and group counseling sessions and worked with area businesses, creating a supportive community for prevention.
Then, for two years at the Alcohol and Drug Council, she served as Clinical Director at 16 area schools. She assisted in the creation of a team atmosphere among clinical staff, conducted program site visits, coordinated program progress, evaluated successes and identified areas needing improvement.
In 1987 she founded Degenhardt Educationals, a non-profit 501(c)(3) Educational, Counseling Ministry. Out of this came the development of the Degenhardt Family Learning System ®, illustrating how addiction and other problem behaviors disrupt the family balance. A poster illustrating 35 different addictions and problem behaviors was also designed.
In 1997, she established SEED Publishers, Inc., which has published four books. Katherine teaches and counsels from a Biblical perspective, focusing on individuals’ emotional and spiritual growth. Her years of professional experience combined with her Christian faith have given her a wise and balanced approach. Her ministry is healing and restorative.
